The Planning and Development Department offers comprehensive services focused on land use planning and the permitting process for development projects.
Our responsibilities include processing a variety of applications, such as Official Community Plan (OCP) amendments, zoning changes, preparation of land use bylaws, subdivision of properties, and the issuance of development and building permits.
In addition, we oversee all municipal land acquisition and disposition activities. Every land development proposal undergoes thorough review and approval to ensure compliance with the standards outlined in the Subdivision and Development Servicing Bylaw.
In 2024 the District in partnership with the Peace River Regional district and other local communities has developed a new Interim Housing Needs Report to address the housing requirements of the region, and identify potential strategies to provide more sustainable and inclusive housing for all.
In 2021 we also participated in collaborative initiatives, including the development of the PRRD Housing Needs Implementation Framework with the Peace River Regional District to address housing requirements in the area.
Furthermore, we are involved in the Accessibility Plan developed by municipalities across Northeastern BC, which aims to enhance collaboration and streamline efforts to improve accessibility for all residents.
