2026 Local Election – Candidate FAQ
How many nominators do I need?
In Hudson’s Hope, only two eligible nominators are required. The provincial nomination forms include space for additional nominators because they are standardized for communities with larger populations. Candidates may list more than two, but it is not required.
Who can run for office?
Anyone who meets the provincial eligibility requirements under the Local Government Act may run for Mayor or Councillor. Candidates must be Canadian citizens, at least 18 years old, and not otherwise disqualified by provincial legislation.
Where do I get the nomination package?
Nomination packages are available at the District Office and on the District website (www.hudsonshope.ca/candidate) . Hard copies can be picked up during regular office hours.
When does the Nomination Period open?
The Nomination Period opens Tuesday, September 1 at 9:00 am. Candidates may begin submitting their completed nomination papers at that time. The Nomination Period closes Friday, September 11 at 4:00 pm.
Do I need an appointment to submit my nomination?
Appointments are strongly recommended. A short review helps ensure your documents are complete and avoids delays. Walk‑ins are accepted, but candidates with appointments will be served first.
What documents do I need to submit?
Your nomination package will outline all required forms, including:
- Candidate Nomination Form
- Appointment of Financial Agent (if applicable)
- Other standardized provincial forms included in the package
Important: Section C2 on page 3 of the Candidate Nomination Form must be signed in front of the Chief Election Officer at the time you submit your nomination package. This portion cannot be signed in advance.
Can I campaign before the Nomination Period?
Candidates should follow provincial rules regarding campaigning, signage, and advertising. Please refer to Elections BC guidelines and the Local Government Act for details.
