Water Treatment Plant Update

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

MESSAGE FROM THE MAYORS OFFICE

Water Treatment Plant Update

On behalf of Council and Staff, I am very pleased to share with you the latest Water Treatment Plant update.

As previously mentioned, the District is undertaking a phased approach moving from the well water to a surface water system.

Phase 1 involved installing two pumps across the berm into the river. In addition, the associated piping infrastructure and electrical work had to be completed in order to receive the river water to the plant.

All infrastructure and electrical work was completed by the end of January.

As of late last week, the District’s contractor has replaced the sand media in the filtration system completing all required work for Phase 1.

We are now able to pump river water directly into the distribution system and start the flushing process. This will take some time.

As per Northern Health’s requirements, the District needs to report two consecutive good test results in order for the Boil Water Advisory to be lifted.

District staff will begin this initial testing process the week of February 20, 2023.

If all goes well, the Boil Water Advisory could be lifted by early March.

Phase 2 involves the installation of a UV system which will support surface water treatment during times of higher turbidity as expected during the spring freshet and heavy rain events.

The planning for Phase 2 has been completed and work will begin in the near future.

I would like to thank the community once again for your patience as we work through this process.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
